Chroma Coatings

A painting contractor in the Carolinas with the skill to compete commercially and a brand that still said residential.

Construction Services · Brand & Strategy

The situation

Chroma was doing good work at the residential level, but the owner had bigger ambitions. The business had the capability to compete for high-end commercial contracts. The brand didn't communicate that.

It looked like every other local painter. Walking into a commercial bid with that presentation meant starting the conversation at a deficit.

The work

Brand strategy and visual identity, built from discovery. The engagement started with understanding what the business was actually capable of and who the right clients were.

The brand was rebuilt from that foundation. Not a logo refresh. A repositioning of what Chroma was, and who it was for.

What changed

Local residential work became commercial projects from Michigan to Florida, and as far west as Colorado.

In year one, the demand the new brand created outpaced the capacity to deliver it.

The brand worked. The business is still running, and the owner is still a vocal advocate.

ScaleCraft does not publish client revenue figures. What changed here is stated in the terms the owner confirmed: the geographic range, and demand outpacing operational capacity in year one.

In their words
AJ Dressler, Owner of Chroma Coatings

Let him create a brand that will grow itself.

Justin brought out of the box thinking to our company. He was able to look at Chroma and challenge our thinking and inspire us to dream bigger. He took time to understand me, my wants, my needs and my vision for the company. Once he did that he created several mock ups of what our brand could be and worked tirelessly to perfect it. Justin was able to take our brand from a local household painter to an elite coatings company that does work all over the United States. I would strongly suggest you work alongside him and let him create a brand that will grow itself.
